A little bit about me
More Than Just a Safari Blog
This isn’t a site filled with generic icons or impersonal travel tips. It’s something far more personal.
This is our family’s scrapbook, our advice column, and our love letter to adventure.
Over the past ten years, we have been lucky enough to go on more than 100 safaris. But this site isn’t about bragging rights. It is about sharing our real experiences, the dusty boots, the quiet sunrises, and the lessons learned, so that your own journey is easier and more magical.
We are lucky. We have traveled the world.
“I do so hope to find the time to send you more on my international travels soonest.”
Curious why we pour our hearts into this?
The Life Behind the Lens
To understand this site, you have to understand where I came from. This is a fun, photographic & written look at my life.
Roots & Running
It started before me. Both of my parents represented Kenya in their respective sports. I grew up not just on a tea estate, but on safari.
Primary School: Kericho Primary School. Best memory? Being chased by a bull (and winning the 100m sprint). That talent didn’t last long!
St. Andrews Turi (5-8.5 yrs): A fabulous school in Kenya’s highlands. Cold swimming pools, Brownies (the scouts, not the chocolate), boys chasing girls with lab rats, and getting the “tackie” (gym shoe) thrown at my behind.
Hanford, UK (8-12 yrs): An incredible school. Climbing trees, being useless at riding horses, but loving Gymnastics, tennis, and netball.
Sherborne School for Girls (12-18): Amazing mates, awesome sport (tennis & squash), the coffee shop on Sherborne High Street, and the Brit pub!
Bristol (18-19): Retaking my A-Levels after enjoying Sherborne too much. Wonderful people. Lots of pubs.
Cardiff Uni (19-22): Great memories of wonderful friends, a car without an exhaust, “fat boy fry up” breakfasts… oh, and pubs again. (I also worked at Rusinga Island Lodge on Lake Victoria during this time).
Back Home (22+): Worked in holidays at Mayfair Court.
The rest you probably know.
Meet the Family & Our Projects
This isn’t a one-person show. It’s me, the family, and our collective experiences.
It all started simply: to thank the incredible lodges that invited my family to stay at their glorious places. That gratitude grew into a mission to help others.
Here is how we pull it all together:
1. TSC (Tailored Safaris for Families)
We organize beautiful safaris for families in special little places. Because we have had the time to visit them all, we cater to all budgets. Itineraries on aFSB
2. ZZB (Zawadi Za Bush – Safari Goodies)
We produce lovely, family-friendly safari goodies. Items for every member of the family to use during their safari or take home to keep, love, or give as Gifts Shop
3. Rivercliff
We produce chemical-free vegetables with our community, for our community. We share lovely family-friendly recipes from our farm & neighboring farms, many that have been in the family for generations.
4. aFSB
This site aFSB is the thread that pulls all of this together: The stories, the safaris, the goodies, and the farm life.
Welcome to our world. We are glad you are here.
On work
In 1994, I started my travel career by working in hotels, small lodges and tented camps whilst studying Hotel Management at university; in 2003, I started promoting Kenya and Tanzania abroad. In 2008 I launched The SAFARI Company which is now an industry leader in promoting travel throughout Africa and specialises in magnificent little game lodges, a safari tent, a beach villa or exquisite little farmhouses NOT larger hotel chains… as a result of their achievements, we the proudest winner of 38 awards, including eight in 2024 and one in 2025. I’m still most proud of these amazing achievements, though I am the proudest winner of two awards:
Kenya’s Most Influential Woman in Tourism and Leisure 2016
East Africa’s Most Influential Woman in Tourism and Leisure 2016
In 2020 we launched our The SAFARI Company Events and proudly organised six destination weddings in 2024, motorsport events & safaris, fun & educational school and collage trips and wonderfully big birthday celebrations.
