Why we’ll never do mass tourism again…
We Treat your family as friends, not tourists
We’re all about soaking up Africa’s magic from cosy little game lodges, charming farmhouses or tucked-away beach villas. Not package holidays, big hotel chains or following the crowd.
I’ve just returned from a weekend in a mass tourism lodge, somewhere in Africa ;). I went with interest and excitement because we don’t use large places and I guess I was just interested. Holy moly, the crowds elbowing each other to snap a picture of that same elephant (honestly I do think he was posing😁). A drunken waiter who couldn’t stop hugging my son and stroking his face (awks!), and the kind of buffet where people trampled children to pile their plates with truly questionable food… which ultimately all tasted of the same thing in the end .. Blue Band (Anyone who’s ever lived in Kenya will understand😏). I laughed, I cringed—and most of all, it made me feel proud that we offer what we do.
Kenya is shifting towards a more immersive approach to tourism, and here at The SAFARI Company we’re at the forefront of this transformation. The families that travel with us are no longer content with merely ticking off wildlife sightings from the back of a safari truck, crammed with people—the old “two game drives and a buffet” experience has lost its attraction for many. They’re searching instead for something deeper: opportunities to truly connect with nature, have fun as a family whilst on safari, meet real people and share meaningful experiences with their loved ones, create lifelong memories. Parents want their children to understand the importance of sustainability and conservation, while still enjoying the thrill of the African wilderness. We provide all of this, in ways that are as exhilarating as they are enriching.
Imagine exploring Kenya’s wild landscapes on horseback or camelback. Perhaps you prefer something faster-paced, like a motorbike, e-bike, or even a good old-fashioned bicycle safari. Or maybe they want to get behind the wheel themselves, learning to drive a rally car through the untamed wilderness. For those seeking to cool off, there’s nothing quite like swimming in rapids or leaping off waterfalls – an adventure the whole family can dive into, quite literally
But the magic doesn’t stop at thrilling activities. When traveling with us, you will have the chance to engage with Kenya’s rich local cultures. Whether it’s collecting fresh eggs from the garden before breakfast, visiting organic tea and coffee farms, or even crafting traditional Maasai beadwork, we offer experiences that are as educational as they are fun. Together, families can kitesurf down at the coast, learn to deep-sea dive, or enjoy a serene SUP safari at sunrise. And at the end of the day, what better way to reflect on these memories than on a sunset dhow cruise or a sundowner under an acacia tree – with a little laughter, some tree-climbing, and perhaps a fizzy drink too many?
In short, we offer a truly personal safari experience that goes beyond the cookie-cutter tourist trail. It’s a chance for families to bond, learn, and create lasting memories in one of the most stunning places on earth.
We truly do aim to offer the safari of a lifetime.
